We use random raws to translate, but when it comes to editing, we need a decent raw therefore the “scanning” part isn’t crossed out yet.

Sure:
First I save all pics; I’m using Safari’s Website Info to get the pics as they’re “protected” by Javascript (I guess Firefox might have a similar info panel to access the image resources).
Then I apply a batch sequence to auto-adjust the levels on all pics, so that the white is pure white and the black is 100% black.
Next I am using the pencil and the stamp tool in Photoshop to quickly remove all Kanjis and the watermarks that are easy to remove.
Now comes the tricky part: carefully select one watermark, so you have the exact outline (save this as a reference for further use – I just tried sending you the edited watermark by mail, but it failed as cox.et cannot be found… sorry). Now convert the image to greyscale and add the watermark as a new temporary layer. Position it over the watermark on the page. cmd+click on the new layer to load the selection of the watermark. Now you can remove the new layer as we just needed it for this selection.
Change to the background layer while still maintaining the current selection and copy the watermark from the background layer. Paste the newly copied watermark as a new layer. Set the new layer blend-mode to “screen”. Now adjust the levels for the pasted layer and the watermark is already dimming quite well, blending into the background image. After that you can reduce the image to one background layer.
Now use the stamp tool to finish and remove remaining traces.
Afterwards I often have to retrace parts of the black box outlines with the pencil. That’s it ^_^
The second chapter I’ve done took about two + hours, but I’m quite quick with these things, so it may well take up to 4 hours for ~40 pages.

I just started reading this manga a few days ago and have already caught up to the latest chapter. I was just wondering what the frequency of release is for kimi ni todoke in japan. Do you guys follow that same frequency
No we don’t follow their frequency, and we also don’t have a consistent release day/time. When it’s done, it’s done, and we’ll release it. This also depends if we get ahold of a decent raw to work on. The chinese raws we’ve been using is pretty hard to clean, and my chinese tl is pretty much new to translating which is why some of the tl might be a little bit off.
Oh I see. You probably can’t scan the raw which comes right from the magazine cuz its really bad quality. But just a question, why is chinese scan better than the japanese one?
Didn’t say that the chinese scans are better :p I actually prefer the jp raws cos my tl for jp is not really new to translating unlike my cn tl. Right now, we don’t have any jp raws so it sucks 😦 With jp raws, I understand a bit so I understand if there’s something wrong with the script ^^

How long does it take to scan a bloody chapter?? I know they are low on staff but come on they are still on the Bloody scanning process!!

question here, how much Quality checking do you have to do because of the Chinese raws you receive and where can I read more about it?
Also why are the Jap raws inaccessible to you?
My QC is mostly (around 95%) towards the typesetting errors; it’s rarely the raw/cleaning itself cos we know that it’s already LQ and we can’t really do anything about it.
The JP raws are extremely hard to find, unless I actually buy them, but I’m not spending my own savings just for that; money’s hard to earn.

Stop complaining! Can’t you just leave them alone while they are doing the best they can to release this as soon as possible. If you want to read it sooner, learn Japanese and read the raws or make your own scanlation group.

I don’t actually think that you guys take a long time to release chapters! On the contrary, I’m really amazed how fast you can be compared to other scanlation teams (those you have to wait for at least 6 months before you see a new chapter out) and still, being able to read the manga you love isn’t it the most important??? I’m more impressed they’re translating anything to begin with, specially a Shoujo. Not that there’s anything wrong with Shoujos, just like all Shounen a vast majority of them are crap while a few are able to stand out.
I agree with you. I do have a lot of respect for people who can translate japanese. I don’t speak, read or write this language (yet). I actually do translation (not manga) but from english to french or french to english so I understand how tough it can be, most of all when you have to translate something you’re not interested in. I’m just very grateful to those who take up some of their time and share their talent with others. I’m totally aware that none of this could be possible without them.

I’ve checked the raws, and 56 isn’t up yet. I think the chinese raws comes out monthly too since they originally come from JP raws anyway.
Why are Chinese raws ahead of the Japanese raws…

Honestly, this idea is horrible ! Reading mangas on internet, it is my only distraction. And Kimi ni Todoke is my favorite. When I wee a new chapter, I smile. I love read and read again the serie.
